An experienced master mariner and harbour pilot, Ben has an extensive seagoing career spanning a wide range of vessel types, including refrigerated cargo, bulk, general cargo, container, harbour/escort terminal tugs, Aids to Navigation maintenance, RO-RO cargo, passenger, dredgers, survey, platform supply, and polar research. Having sailed in many areas of the world, including the Arctic and Antarctic, and carried a wide variety of cargoes from coal to thoroughbred racehorses, Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to matters involving vessel readiness, seaworthiness, cargo work, hatch maintenance, and manoeuvring, amongst others.
His time spent as a harbour pilot and master on harbour tugs gives Ben a unique insight into the movements of vessels and the actions of pilots and crews, allowing him to distil complex audio and positioning data into clear timelines and explanations of the occurrence.
Since beginning consulting with the firm, Ben has provided technical advice on cases involving allision, safe berth, pilotage, and the use of tugs.
